hello jack

So… what does one do besides marketing and waiting by the phone? Well I started writing screenplays. I just registered my first one with the Writers Guild of America. Here’s the pitch:

HELLO JACK is a quirky drama feature film, set in New York City, in the present day. 

Logline: A socially awkward waiter obsessed with his houseplant’s health meets a free-spirited nursery worker who wakes him up to the pleasures, pains, and possibilities of life.HELLO JACK is a character driven story exploring the themes of acceptance, family, and self-discovery.Plot Synopsis: Jack Holland is a by-product of a broken home. The twenty-something waiter becomes even more emotionally damaged after his brother Will’s death. Then after inheriting his houseplant, Jack obsesses over its health while convincing himself he needs to get to Paris, Will’s favorite city, in order to close up past wounds.During his quest to save money for the trip, Jack meets free-spirited Maddie, a clerk at the local nursery whose warmth and brashness intrigues him. He plays it safe. She doesn’t. He holds back. She’s fearless. Throughout the story, Jack faces and deals with personal demons that cause his social awkwardness and anxiety.Despite his initial resistance and with the help of some unlikely characters, Jack ultimately realizes that acceptance leads to new beginnings and family means more than sharing the same bloodline or last name.
